“…NTA, Radio Nigeria can never be what it used to be again” - NTA DG

The DG made this known during a panel session at the Nigerian Electronic Media Content Exhibition and Awards, NEMCEA 2026 held in Lagos on Wednesday.

According to the DG, the issue of power, which has been a setback for the stations is presently being addressed. “You know, since I came, we have equipped no fewer than 20 of our stations with solar power, equipment and that is beginning to improve things, obviously.” he said.While the DG regretted the government’s neglect of NTA and Radio Nigeria over the years with the advent of liberation and competition in the industry, he further assured, ‘We recognize that young Nigerians constitute at least 70% of our population and if you don't capture their hearts and Minds, you have not started.”Hence the DG explained that despite knowing there are competitions from social media, it does not mean that radio and television are no longer important. He further informed Nigerians, “in the next half a decade or thereabout, Though it’s a gradual process, NTA and radio Nigeria, will be relevant, but it will never be the same again. Let's be very realistic. It will never be what it used to be. “ he added.
